*Of first times…..*

The week has passed so quickly. I guess it’s true what they say. When you pass the 20-year mark, things just seem to fast-forward. Times 4 at that.

Anyways, yesterday, I went down to the Lustre office to get my lucky draw cheque. It was a hilarious event I tell ya. It’s like my first time on camera. Haha. A lady gave me and the other winners a piece of paper with some questions(emailed by Sujimy) to rehearse before they recorded us for the interview. First up was a guy representing his mum. Poor guy, he fumbled with his Malay, which inevitably made me so pressured to watch what I say being a Malay teacher and all.

The second interviewee was a ‘Mat’. He used ‘ah’, ‘macam’, ‘lah’ dengan secukup rasa. We all burst out laughing when he said the product made him look semakin berseri. Hehe. The 2 guys had to re-take their shots a couple of time. ‘Cut! We have to re-take that one again,’ the director said. And again. And again.
Then it was MY turn. And believe it or not when the director asked me one of the questions wrongly, I somehow, copied what she said.

Director: Apa perasaan awak bila dapati awak menang cabutan berTUA?

Me: Bila saya mendapat tahu dari emak saya yang saya menang dalam cabutan berTUA.. apa plak berTUA aku ni.. berTUAH lah…

Needless to say, it was a cut and a retake. But other than that, I pretty much completed 6 questions in 1 shot. When I finished, “Wah, lepas ni dah boleh berlakon pulaklah.. natural,” said one of the company workers. *lol* I almost rolled on the ground. For the life of me, if this was what I’d have to go through at every lucky draw win, I’d rather not win at all!

I just hope I turned out alright on camera. I seriously had no idea what I blabbered about and how horrendous my Malay was with the nerves getting to me. Hopefully, if they decided to take any of my shots for their adverts on TV or anything, it doesn’t look horrible.

I can almost imagine my kids say, “Chekgoo Suhainis! Saya nampak Chekgoo Suhainis ada kat TV!” if the interview was used for TV.

Let us all pray it doesn’t. For the sake of our language. *lol*
